Coking plants

The coking plant started operation in 1944 and in the same year 198 thousand tons of coke were produced. The coking plant was expanded in 1955, when the existing two batteries were extended by one battery with 36 chambers. In 1967, coke battery No.1 was closed and the remaining two batteries were converted to the production of refractory coke after the closure of the blast furnace in 1976. Production ceased in the second half of the 1980s and the site has been under demolition since then.

The monumental reinforced concrete buildings of the mill, bunker and coke-loading tower, dusty with coal dust in a landscape covered only with grass, evoke strong emotions...and the torso of the coke oven gas house is now a human dwelling.
