Old Jewish cemetery

He was lucky the highway didn't start being built here until after the revolution. So they twisted it a little and just missed it. It's hidden in the woods by an avenue of chestnut trees just dropping from the gate. The headstones no longer stand in front of the avenue, covering the ubiquitous ivy. Closer to the highway the gravestones still stand. Due to their age, they are gradually becoming illegible. The Jews put stones on the tombstones. This custom is reminiscent of burials in ancient Israel, when graves were covered with stones to protect them from wild animals. The stone also symbolizes the continuity of generations. The stone is called ,,even" and is a compound of the two words ,,af" and ,,ben" father and son.
