🔥 Blue Miracle or Bagger 1473 - a giant that once fed the Plessa power plant with brown coal. This steel colossus, 171 metres long and weighing 3,850 tonnes, is one of the largest basket excavators in Europe.
⏳ Today it no longer roars, but its story is not over... The memory of the mining era is slowly rusting away in the open air. But it may have a sad fate - extinction. 😢
❓ To preserve or to demolish? What do you think about saving industrial monsters?

>>>> The Bagger 1473, nicknamed the "Blue Wonder" (German: "Blaues Wunder"), is a prototype of the SRs 1500 excavator type, which was built between 1964 and 1965 at VEB Schwermaschinenbau Lauchhammerwerk. This monumental piece of equipment was used in the Meuro brown coal mine in Germany from 1965 until the end of mining in 1999. It was subsequently used for reclamation work until 2002, when it was decommissioned and moved near the village of Hörlitz as a monument to the mining history of the area.
Technical parameters:
*Height: approximately 50 metres
*Length: approx. 171.5 metres
*Weight: 3 850 tonnes
*Power: 5 555 kW, powered by 6 kV cable
*Propulsion: six-piece crawler chassis with a maximum speed of 6 metres per minute
*Extraction capacity: theoretically up to 5,130 cubic metres of material per hour
*Bucket wheel diameter: 12.5 metres with ten buckets of 1.5 m³ each
*Reach: mining up to 35 metres high and 15 metres deep
In 2019, Bagger 1473 was officially declared a heritage site. However, its future remains uncertain due to its deteriorating condition, vandalism and the financial cost of maintenance. In August 2024, the mayors of Senftenberg, Großräschen and the municipality of Schipkau submitted a request to remove the dredge from the heritage list in order to allow its demolition if funding for its preservation is not provided.

*Hmotnost: 3 850 tun
*Výkon: 5 555 kW, napájen 6 kV kabelem
*Pohyb: šestidílný pásový podvozek s maximální rychlostí 6 metrů za minutu
*Kapacita těžby: teoreticky až 5 130 kubických metrů materiálu za hodinu
*Průměr korečkového kola: 12,5 metru s deseti korečky o objemu 1,5 m³ každý
*Dosah: možnost těžby až do výšky 35 metrů a hloubky 15 metrů
